Car buying is fun...if you know how to do it!

I have been helping folks just like you buy cars and trucks for almost 35 years. I have been blessed to be a consultant to large dealer groups around the Country and Canada and help them be better car dealers, and a better ambassador for their Brand. Now, as I approach the last leg in my long career, I have taken a position in my home State of Maine, working for the best dealer group with the best reputation I could find, selling cars. It is my passion. I have had 11 new cars since 2017 and I really cant count how many in my lifetime.

As long as I have been doing this, I have been blessed not to work in an environment that encouraged shenanigans. Surely I have seen plenty of those operations, but I have never been directly employed by one. I guess by now I have learned every dirty trick in the book, and have probably forgotten more about the business than most of the younger guys have learned.

The car business has changed. When I first started it was not uncommon for all of the Salespeople to be men in their mid to late forties wearing three piece suits. Smoking was a must, and you wanted to have ashtrays at your desk, and of course, cigarettes available! I remember being trained that if a customer was to light up in front of me, then I wanted to do the same! Bad advice certainly but I did heed it.

It's a much different game today than ever before. The Internet has changed the way we do everything, much less buy cars. And today's consumer has access to more information than ever before. I remember a time when we did not know what the dealer across the street was doing for pricing while today you can click on a web page and see it plain as day, even if that dealer is hundreds or even thousands of miles away. Reviews have become commonplace and dealers pay attention to them. Google, Facebook, Yelp, DealerRater, Cars dot com, Edmunds, the list of bandwagon review sites is endless, and yet still growing.

In this Blog site, I will take you step by step over time, through the basic steps of selecting the right vehicle, the right dealer, the right pricing, the right way to understand what your trade is worth, and where and when to obtain financing. Over the next many blogs I will detail step by step on what goes into making excellent informed decisions starting with do You even need a car and taking you right through every facet and every segment of buying a car.
